Bale and Gunter - Tottenham look to Welsh wonderkids to seal their defence

Tottenham will continue with their youth policy when it comes to new signings after targeting Cardiff City defender Chris Gunter in the January transfer window.

Gunter, 18, is already a full Wales international and has drawn the attention of a number of Premiership clubs, most notably Everton who have already had two bids rejected.

Reports in the Daily Telegraph suggest Spurs will propose structuring a deal similar to the one that took another promising Welsh defender, Gareth Bale, to White Hart Lane, with cash up front and the rest dependent on progress and appearances.

A fee of around £3m should be enough to tempt Cardiff and the club have said they will not block any potential transfer should they receive an adequate bid.
