Bale boost for Spurs as defender is set to be fit for the start of the season

Tottenham defender Gareth Bale is on course to be fit for the start of the Barclays Premier League campaign.

The left-back joined Spurs in a deal worth up to £10million from Southampton last summer only to suffer a serious foot injury in December after making an impressive start at White Hart Lane.

He returned to pre-season training last week and said: 'I feel great and I feel confident. Pre-season is always about running at this stage and I feel strong.'

Meanwhile, Spurs have told Stuttgart they must pay £600,000 to sign midfielder Kevin-Prince Boateng on loan for the season but the Germans have only offered half that.
