Barry in new talks with Villa

13 April 2012

England international Gareth Barry has started contract talks with Aston Villa.

Villa manager John Gregory is keen to sign him to a new five-year deal that would keep him at the club until 2006.

Central defender Barry, who will be 20 next month, has become established at international level and Gregory feels his new deal should reflect that fact.

"I love it at Villa. It is a great place for me to learn my foot-ball," said Barry. "The process is still going on and there is nowhere I would rather do it.

"We have started talking, but with all that has been going on of late it has not been something which has been a priority.

"We will meet again when everything has settled down and sort out an agreement."
