Bates leaves LTA

12 April 2012

Former British number one Jeremy Bates has left the Lawn Tennis Association to pursue other sport and business interests.

Bates, whose world ranking peaked at 54 in April 1995, had been with the LTA in various capacities since retiring from the professional game in 1996 after a 14-year career.

His most high-profile position was as Great Britain's Davis Cup captain, while his final appointment was as the unofficial replacement for David Felgate as director of performance.

The 44-year-old's greatest playing achievement was to win the Wimbledon mixed doubles with Jo Durie in 1987, while the same pair also claimed the Australian Open crown in 1991.
