Battling Knights' have great night

13 April 2012

London Knights produced a remarkable recovery to grab a 6-5 overtime victory at champions Bracknell Bees in the Sekonda Superleague.

Knights seemed dead and buried when Christ Brant's second goal of the night put Bees, fresh from their victory in Manchester on Thursday, 5-2 ahead with under three minutes left.

But London, who had Dave Morissette ejected, scored three goals in the last 101 seconds from Rich Bronilla, Bryan Richardson and Claude Jutras - with 35 seconds left - to force overtime. Bronilla then grabbed the game-winning goal with Bees' Jimmy Drolet receiving a game misconduct for his protests.

Bees had earlier punished London's ill-discipline to race into a 3-0 lead with powerplay markers from Darren Hurley (2) and Brant.

A Stephane Roy effort was sandwiched by goals from Richardson and Jay Neal before Brant appeared to have wrapped the game up.

However, London's incredible comeback saw them claim their first win on the road in three attempts and cut Sheffield Steelers' lead at the top of the table to seven points.

Nottingham Panthers ended a club record losing run with a 2-1 penalty shoot-out victory over basement boys Belfast Giants at the National Ice Centre.

Former National Hockey League veteran Robert Nordmark hit the winning penalty shot to claim his first goal for the club and condemn Belfast to their fifth defeat in six games.

Giants defenceman Doug Searle broke his league duck to force overtime after Barry Nieckar had given Panthers the lead on the powerplay.
