Beckham will not play again for Real, says Capello

14 April 2012

"Beckham will train with the team but he won't play," Capello told a news conference on Saturday.

When asked if the player would go out on loan for the last six months of his contract Capello replied: "You will have to ask Beckham that question."

Beckham decided not to extend his contract with Real on Thursday and has agreed a move to the Galaxy when his contract expires in June. The five-year deal is worth $1 million a week, the biggest in world sport.

A Major League Soccer official claimed LA Galaxy are "sure" to try to take Beckham to America early after Capello's announcement.

The MLS season is set to kick-off this April and league spokesman Stephen Rodriguez was convinced it will be in the interests of all involved to take the midfielder to California at the earliest possible opportunity.

He said: "I'm sure Alexi (Lalas, general manager) or (head coach) Frank Yallop, when they hear about this, I'm sure they will try to bring him over as quickly as possible.

"It would be in (club owners) AEG and LA Galaxy's best interests to buy out the rest of his contract.

"If it were just a case of buying out his contract then absolutely, they would do it."
