Becks: I'd walk from US for England

12 April 2012

David Beckham has refused to slam the door on his international career, claiming he would walk back from the United States to play for England.

After being axed by Steve McClaren following last year's World Cup, the Real Madrid man was being heavily tipped for a recall ahead of next week's Euro 2008 double-header with Israel and Andorra. A knee injury scuppered that and, with Beckham due to move to Los Angeles in the summer, his England days appear over.

The 31-year-old accepts the situation is not in his hands but, in an exclusive interview with Sport magazine, Beckham insists: "I would walk back from the United States to play for England again."

He added: "I am sure if I am doing well over there, it will not go unnoticed. I will always be available to play for my country if I am needed. I am a fit person and a fit player.

"Getting a recall is not my decision is it? If it does happen, then amazing. But, if it doesn't, then I am honoured to have played the games I have played, and to have captained my country so many times."
