Bees hoping to extend Burgess' stay

13 April 2012

Brentford will today offer striker Ben Burgess an extended loan deal despite seeing him limp off during their victory over Norwich in the Worthington Cup.

The Bees set Griffin Park alight with a 1-0 triumph over the First Division Canaries, thanks to a dramatic injury-time goal from teenager Kevin O'Connor.

But the victory came at a price. Ijah Anderson left the field with a thigh injury after 17 minutes and Burgess followed suit with an ankle problem before half-time.

Manager Steve Coppell said: "Ben could be out for a few weeks but we still want to extend his loan to three months and Blackburn have agreed.

"I spoke to Graeme Souness on Monday and he has a lot of strikers up there and is happy to see Ben get experience at a club where he is needed."
