Bell in control against Sussex

Leaders Warwickshire made a steady start on a rain-affected first day against champions Sussex in the Frizzell County Championship.

Ian Bell was unbeaten on 84 at the close and Nick Knight made 65 as the hosts reached 177 for two at stumps.

Less than 25 minutes of play was possible at Old Trafford with Kent 15 without loss against Lancashire.

Play was abandoned for the day at Derbyshire, Glamorgan and Durham without a ball being bowled.
