Wales’ Liam Williams came up short in his world title bid against Demetrius Andrade on Saturday night.

‘The Machine’ recovered from an early knockdown to give a battling display in Florida, but was clearly second best as the defending WBO middleweight champion took a unanimous decision victory with judges’ scores of 118-109, 118-109 and 116-11.

The loss at Hollywood’s Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino was Williams’ first since his pair of contentious super-welterweight defeats against domestic rival Liam Smith back in 2017 and ended a run of seven consecutive victories - all impressive stoppages - since moving to middleweight.

Andrade, meanwhile, maintained his undefeated professional record and moved to 30-0 with the fourth successful defence of the WBO belt he claimed against Walter Kautondokwa back in October 2018.

‘Boo Boo’ - whom promoter Eddie Hearn recently labelled as the most avoided fighter he had ever worked with - will now hope to have moved one step closer to landing those high-profile bouts against the likes of Gennady Golovkin and Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez.
