Boxing legend Floyd Mayweather was said to have left the Staples Centre in Los Angeles ‘disgusted’ after Tyson Fury was denied a memorable win over Deontay Wilder.

Mayweather – undefeated in 50 professional fights – was in attendance in California as American Wilder looked to successfully defend his WBC heavyweight title for a ninth time.

The fight would end, controversially, in a draw with the three judges unable to be split.

Despite being knocked down twice by Wilder, Fury dominated proceedings and many pundits and experts feel that Fury should have been awarded the victory after twelve rounds.

One of those, apparently, was Mayweather.

“Floyd Mayweather’s walked out this arena disgusted… that says it all, you know to take something away from someone that’s come from hell and back, to ruin the biggest comeback in boxing history, probably in sporting history, that is a disgrace,” said Ben Davison, Fury’s trainer, told BBC Five Live.

"Honestly disgraceful. Everybody in boxing knows Tyson’s story and we weren’t asking for any bias, we wanted and fair crack of the whip, that’s all we asked for from start to finish and we haven’t got that.”

Mayweather was interviewed at the end of the fifth round, and that stage certainly backed Fury for the win.

“Wilder is dependent on just one shot – he’s looking for one big shot – and as a fighter, you have to use other weapons,” said Mayweather.

“Fury has the combinations, and a very, very fast jab and is taking his time so it’s looks like, if Wilder doesn’t do anything else, Fury’s going to win if it goes the distance.

Asked how he scored the fight at that stage? “5-0 [Fury] so far.

A rematch, either in the United States or the UK, is expected to be announced in the coming weeks.
