Cardiff set to beat London in race to host Anthony Joshua vs Tyson Fury heavyweight world title fight

Cardiff is the frontrunner to beat London in the bid to host the all-British heavyweight clash between Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury.

Joshua’s management team have agreed to the 60-40 split specified by Fury’s representatives, with the latter’s promoter Frank Warren saying a contract would be on its way to Joshua shortly.

The Principality Stadium in the Welsh capital is the current first choice for the fight with the venue booked out for two dates, December 3 and December 17, with the former date believed to be the preference. It is expected the fight would take place with the roof closed.

A Joshua-Fury fight has long been mooted and a deal was previously agreed for a blockbuster double-header before Fury fought Deontay Wilder for a third time and then Dillian Whyte, and Joshua met Oleksandr Usyk for the first time.

Fury has labelled the proposed fight a “battle of Britain” with the two fighters keen for it to take place on home soil rather than in Saudi Arabia where both men have fought, albeit in WWE in the case of Fury.

Talks have been rapid since the WBC champion put out a video of himself announcing he was planning to fight before the end of the year against an unnamed opponent.

But he called out Joshua saying he would be his first choice and the Londoner replied that he was ready to sign on the dotted line whatever the terms.

There are still stumbling blocks to overcoming before it gets signed off, particularly regarding any TV deal.
