Bradley Wiggins backs Tour de France star Mark Cavendish for Olympics

Confident: Britain's Bradley Wiggins
13 April 2012

Bradley Wiggins has no doubt Tour de France sensation Mark Cavendish will be ready to go for gold in Beijing next month.

Cavendish, winner of four stages in France, will be partnering Wiggins in the madison event at the Olympics.

The 23-year-old could also compete in the individual pursuit.

Geraint Thomas was due to ride that event but the final is the night before team pursuit qualifying rounds begin, when he will be part of a serious British gold medal bid.

Cavendish withdrew from the Tour last week to concentrate on Beijing and Wiggins said: "Cav's performances were no surprise. If he had stayed to the end in Paris, he would have won five stages.

"But he came out at the right time, and he has the best part of four weeks to get himself right."
