Bridge backs Johnson for Sven call

Matt Hughes14 April 2012

Watne Bridge believes Chelsea team-mate Glen Johnson can establish himself as an England regular in time for next summer's European Championship in Portugal.

The 19-year-old Chelsea defender is expected to receive his first England call-up later today when Sven-Goran Eriksson names his squad for Sunday's friendly against Denmark at Old Trafford.

Johnson scored his first league goal for Chelsea in yesterday's 5-0 win over Newcastle, and Bridge is convinced he is ready for international-football. Bridge said: "I think Glen definitely deserves a chance and Gary Neville now has a contender for his place.

"Some people may say he's too young but he's going to learn a lot this year. He's definitely got a chance and it'd be great to see us playing in the same England team. I'd like to think he'll get his chance in this friendly."
