Bristol Rovers job for Francis

13 April 2012

Gerry Francis has been appointed as the new manager of Bristol Rovers.

It is his second spell in charge of the club, having first managed them between 1987 and 1991.

The former Tottenham and Queens Park Rangers manager led the club to the old Division Three title in 1990 and his main task this time around will be to restore Rovers to Division Two following their relegation last season.

The former England captain has taken the job last filled on a permanent basis by QPR's Ian Holloway, who took over at Loftus Road in March as Francis's replacement. Garry Thompson, who was caretaker-manager, will be Francis's assistant.
