British pair struggle in pentathlon field

British pair Sam Weale and Nick Woodbridge were off the pace after the first two Olympic modern pentathlon events.

Weale, 26, finished the pistol shooting and fencing in 25th place having scored 177 points with his gun and a win-loss record of 17-18 with his sword.

Woodbridge, 22, won only 15 of his 35 duels and managed 160 shooting points leaving him in last place in the competition.

The Russian defending champion Andrei Moiseev and China's Zhenhua Qian jointly won the fencing with 26 victories each. Qian leads the field on 2,180 points, with Moiseev just 12 points behind.
