Brooke unhappy despite victory

13 April 2012

Harlequins head coach Zinzan Brooke was disappointed with his side's performance despite their 38-8 victory against Manchester RFC in the fifth round of the Tetley's Bitter Cup.

Wind and rain made playing conditions difficult for both sides, but Brooke said: "We made a lot of mistakes and unforced errors but I did not think they were every a threat.

"We should have been more patient and kept them going backwards, which is hard to defend against.

"We turned the ball over too many times and even though we won I would have liked to have drawn confidence from this game to take into the Premiership in the weeks ahead.

"It was a little bit frustrating more than anything as we had spent a considerable amount of time preparing for this game. I was disappointed."

Manchester battled but never looked like causing an upset.

Alex Key, Manchester's director of rugby, said: "I was pleased with the character of my side but the last try took a bit of gloss off our performance.

"Harlequins are a good side and they gave us a hard time in the set piece but the players came in afterwards saying Quinns were not that good really.

"We gave them too much respect. We didn't expect to win here but we had nothing to lose."
