Huddersfield scrum-half Danny Brough all but clinched his England call-up with a virtuoso performance on his return to the KC Stadium in Huddersfield's 34-20 Engage Super League win over Hull.

The former Scotland captain switched his allegiance at the start of the year and looks to have played his way into the England squad for the inaugural match against the Exiles at Headingley on Friday week.

In front of England coach Steve McNamara, Brough scored one of his side's six tries, kicked three touchline conversions and provided further evidence of the best tactical kicking game in Super League to guide the Giants to a victory that keeps them level on points with leaders Warrington. "I'd pick him," said Huddersfield coach Nathan Brown.

"From a personal point of view and a club point of view, we feel Danny has earned his opportunity. He's playing consistently well."

Brough's brilliance overshadowed a hat-trick of tries from Huddersfield's Hull-born winger David Hodgson which helped Brown's men complete the double over the Black and Whites.

Hull centre Kirk Yeaman is another player hoping to get the call when McNamara announces his squad on Wednesday but he will first face an anxious wait to discover if he is to be charged over a couple of ferocious-looking tackles.

One of those resulted in Huddersfield full-back Scott Grix being forced to leave the field on a stretcher, although Hull coach Richard Agar insisted it was fair tackle, labelling it "a fast and tough collision".

Elsewhere, half-back Kyle Briggs scored two tries as Bradford overcame Salford 28-14 at Odsal to secure their first win in seven League matches to leapfrog the Reds in the table.

Stand-off Rangi Chase scored four tries in Castleford's 56-24 win over Harlequins, for whom on-loan winger Chris Riley scored a brace on his debut.

Full-back Clint Greenshields ended his two-month lay-off in style by helping Catalan Dragons to a 42-22 win over Wakefield. "I wasn't sure what to expect of Greenie," said Catalan coach Trent Robinson. "He's been out for eight weeks and I thought he was outstanding."
