Buck: Gallas will stay at Bridge

14 April 2012

Chelsea chairman Bruce Buck expects William Gallas to remain a Chelsea player even though the France international says he wants to leave Stamford Bridge.

Buck concedes the 28-year-old, who has been linked with a move to Arsenal, is "unhappy" with life at the champions. Gallas missed the club's tour of the United States and was left out of the squad for the Community Shield.

However, Buck told Five Live: "William is unhappy but we love William Gallas and we'd like him to stay at Chelsea. He has one year on his contract and we expect him to fulfil that."

Buck confirmed that, even if Gallas were to leave, he would not be sold to one of Chelsea's domestic rivals.

And he rejected the charge made by Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson that Chelsea have driven prices up with "cavalier" spending in the transfer market.

"We've certainly spent a lot of money," said Buck.

"But 'cavalier' means we haven't given consideration to the amounts of money we've spent and that's certainly not the case."

Buck is also unhappy with Leeds chairman Ken Bates - Chelsea chairman until he was bought out by Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich - who has accused the Stamford Bridge side of illegally approaching several youth players at his club.

And Buck said: "We believe his claims are baseless and there is a process in football whereby that will be adjudicated.

"We're not happy that Ken has made this an occasion to throw rocks at Chelsea and rocks at Roman."
