Bradford began the post-Steve McNamara era with their eighth league defeat in a row as fellow strugglers Salford beat them 30-26 at Grattan Stadium.

Two Jodie Broughton scores sandwiched tries from Steve Tyrer, Ashley Gibson and Karl Fitzpatrick with Daniel Holdsworth converting all five for Salford.

The Bulls also crossed over five times through Vinny Finigan (two), Steve Menzies, Stuart Reardon and Elliott Whitehead but Danny Addy could only convert three kicks at goal.

Shaun Magennis grabbed a try on his full debut as St Helens beat Harlequins 32-18 to complete a hat-trick of wins over the London club this season.

Saints had already won at the Stoop in Super League and Challenge Cup and Francis Meli bagged a brace of touchdowns for the second match in a row to go with two scores from Paul Wellens and a try from Chris Dean while Jonny Lomax kicked four goals.

Jason Golden, Jamie O'Callaghan and Ryan Esders responded for Quins with Danny Orr converting all three scores.

Kirk Dixon also bagged a brace with Michael Wainwright, Ryan McGoldrick and Ryan Hudson crossing over with Joe Westerman (five) and Dixon adding goals.

Glenn Morrison (two) and Matt Blaymire were the try-scorers for the Wildcats with Paul Cooke kicking two goals.
