Button 'excited' by 2008 Honda prospects

13 April 2012

Jenson Button insists there is genuine excitement within Honda as they start to focus on 2008. The team have endured a wretched year, epitomised throughout the weekend's Turkish Grand Prix as engine changes were required for Button and team-mate Rubens Barrichello.

That relegated the duo to 21st and 22nd on the grid respectively, and although Button enjoyed a relatively exciting race, he could only finish 13th, with Barrichello 17th.

Button: 'There's lots going on [at the Honda factory]'

For troubled Honda, it is almost a case of roll on next year as the end to the current season cannot come quick enough.

Yet Button is first hoping to finish 2007 on a high to at least generate some impetus going into the winter, and then on to 2008.

"The next two or three races are going to be tough, but there is so much going on in the background for later this year and already for next year," said Button.

"Yes, the focus is on next year, but we still need to work with this car to understand which direction works for us.

"So there's lots going on, and it's actually very exciting. I think everybody back at base (the Honda factory) is very excited about the future, but as always it just takes time.

"But that excitement is real and genuine for next year. I would like to end the season on a high first, for everyone to go into the winter on a positive, and I think we can do it because we've some good ideas.

"We're heading in a very different direction than we've been going all this season, and probably for the last couple of years, which is good.

"But it's still difficult to say whether we are going to have a car that is quick enough to win next season.

"You never know at this time of the year. Lots can change for next year, but the people we now have on board do have some very good ideas."

Button has yet to see at first hand what all the apparent fuss is about, but he is planning to address that matter next month.

"It all sounds good from what I've been hearing," added Button. "I haven't been to the factory yet, but I'm going in a couple of weeks, so I will then see for myself."
