Cahill backing Bolton to crash the Chelsea party

13 April 2012

Bolton's "party animals" believe they will be relaxed enough to end Chelsea's four-year unbeaten record at Stamford Bridge today.

While Sir Alex Ferguson is furious that Bolton celebrated their near-certain Premier League survival with a night out on Monday, defender Gary Cahill thinks having the pressure off increases their chances of doing United a favour today.

Cahill said: "It has been a very tense six months, but we will be a lot more relaxed than in recent games. And players can do things more naturally when they are relaxed.

"Chelsea haven't lost at home for years and that takes the pressure off us even more. Sooner or later that run will be broken and it could be us. Nobody expects that but sometimes being underdogs does you a favour. We tend to do well against big sides, we raise our game. We beat United earlier in the season which was a massive result for us."

COOL: Cahill belives a relaxed Bolton can upset Chelsea

Bolton have a vastly superior goal difference to Reading — 11 goals — so can only go down if they lose at Chelsea and Steve Coppell's men run up a rugby score at Pride Park.

"There is a clear goal difference between us and other teams at the bottom. We are confident we have done enough to stay up," added Cahill.

Chelsea's last league defeat at home was against Arsenal (2-1) in 2004.

Didier Drogba is likely to say goodbye to the Chelsea fans after today's game and Cahill is confident he will not celebrate his farewell with a goal.

"I played against Drogba for Aston Villa and we drew 0-0. I would take that again," he said. "Drogba has the all-round game but you shouldn't forget he has tremendous quality around him with the likes of Joe Cole and Michael Ballack."

Nicolas Anelka, who left Bolton to join Chelsea in January, is ineligible to play because his move was initially made on loan. If Bolton survive, as anticipated, manager Gary Megson is expected to open talks with Kevin Nolan and Andy O'Brien about long-term contracts.

He is also closing in on the signature of Danny Guthrie from Liverpool for £1.5million. However, Mikel Alonso, brother of Liverpool's Xabi, will be allowed to leave.
