Cahill is forced to wait

14 April 2012

Millwall's Tim Cahill has been included in Australia's squad to face the Republic of Ireland at Lansdowne Road on 19 August, even though he still can't play for his country of birth.

The 23-year-old midfielder has been asked to train with the side but is not yet eligible to play for the national team after representing Samoa as a junior.

World football's governing body FIFA have indicated he will be able to play next year and coach Frank Farina wants to integrate him into the side as quickly as possible.

Mark Viduka, of Leeds, new Liverpool recruit Harry Kewell, Crystal Palace defender Tony Popovic and Birmingham's former West Ham winger Stan Laziridis are also in the squad.
