Capello to check on World Cup base

England boss Fabio Capello is expected to look at the facilities and playing surfaces at Royal Bafokeng Sports Campus when he arrives in South Africa for a pre-World Cup coaches conference on Monday.

The Football Association have not confirmed the site, near to Sun City in the north-west of the country, as their base for the tournament this summer but Capello has previously raised concerns about the standard of the training pitches there for his squad.

The hotel construction is yet to be finished - plans for a clubhouse and medical facilities need to be completed - but officials are confident of delivering to Capello's requirements on time.

The eventual 82-room hotel will include two "King's suites", with the requests from the King of the Bafokeng people the only factor affecting scheduling at the moment.

"They are pushing it forward," said Riaan Welman, front office manager at the complex.

"At the moment the only thing holding up the King's section is if he is wanting something specific. We can do a room in half a day and a lot of them have equipment ready now."

Capello will be at Sun City for FIFA's Team Workshop for national coaches, discussing aspects of tournament organisation, with the facilities at Royal Bafokeng not part of the programme but still a priority for the 63-year-old.

There are plans for the hotel to construct quad-bike, paintballing and assault-course facilities for team-building exercises, although England players would be unlikely to be allowed to engage in risky pursuits.

Welman is also certain of security levels being high enough for Capello's squad as they prepare to face America, Algeria and Slovenia in Group C.

Welman, describing the security, said: "Lots. There will be local firms and police. The chances of a man falling pregnant is better than getting in here. People will always try but it's a matter of how you deal with it, which our experts know."
