Cardiff get go-ahead

Cardiff Blues' Heineken Cup match with Northampton went ahead on Sunday afternoon after numerous sporting fixtures failed to escape the bad weather.

Sporting events throughout Britain had to be called off over the weekend because of heavy snowfall, the most high profile of which was Chelsea's Barclays Premier League match with Manchester United at Stamford Bridge which had been due to be played on Sunday.

Numerous games in Scotland and most of the Football League programme were also postponed along with rugby union matches and race meetings.

But due to overnight work by staff at the Cardiff City Stadium the Blues' clash with the Saints went ahead at 3pm.

But heavy snow has forced the postponement of the Heineken Cup Pool One clash between Edinburgh and Castres.

The match was scheduled for a 2pm kick-off at Murrayfield, but overnight snow and worsening conditions have led organisers to call the game off with the pitch unplayable and conditions around the ground treacherous.

The match has been rescheduled for 2pm on Monday, and will be played behind closed doors at Murrayfield due to safety concerns for supporters.

The Amlin Challenge Cup match between Sale Sharks and Brive has also been called off because of the conditions at Edgeley Park.

Glasgow Warriors' Heineken Cup match in Toulouse has been re-arranged for Tuesday, December 21. The game was originally scheduled to be played on Saturday but the weather caused travel problems for the Scottish side and the fixture was then re-arranged for on Sunday afternoon.

However, the team's equipment was also delayed and the match postponed. It will now be played on Tuesday at 1800 (1900 local time).
