Carney loses fitness battle

12 April 2012

Great Britain will be without winger Brian Carney and loose forward Sean O'Loughlin for Saturday's Tri-Nations clash with New Zealand in Wellington.

Carney has lost his battle against a hamstring injury - despite head coach Brian Noble insisting earlier he was "100 per cent" - while O'Loughlin is believed to have a leg injury.

Former Wigan star Carney sustained the injury during last week's shock 23-12 win over Australia in Sydney.

Leon Pryce, who switched to stand-off for last Saturday's 23-12 win over Australia following the loss of Danny McGuire through injury, reverts to the wing and Gareth Ellis moves from second row to loose forward.

McGuire, who has recovered from a thigh strain, regains the number six jersey and, in a pack re-shuffle, Adrian Morley starts at prop, with skipper Jamie Peacock reverting to second row.

The changes mean a second cap for Hull front-rower Garreth Carvell, who was dropped after Britain's opening 18-14 defeat by the Kiwis in Christchurch a fortnight ago.
