Carrick on target for Spurs

14 April 2012

Tottenham midfielder Michael Carrick scored in a behind-closed-doors friendly today as he continues his return from injury.

The 23-year-old was on the mark against Leyton Orient in a 3-2 win at Brisbane Road before he was taken off after 65 minutes.

It was the former West Ham man's first action since scoring on his debut for Spurs' reserves on August 31 and follows an ankle injury sustained in training at the start of September.

Development coach Clive Allen said: "It was good to see Michael come through the game. He reported no ill-effects after the game and we'll now see how he his tomorrow morning.

"That was a pleasing aspect of the afternoon's work."

Carrick opened the scoring and further goals from Eddie Silva Sousa and Rohan Ricketts sealed the win.

Allen added: "Michael scored the first goal, a good break from midfield, he was played in on the edge of the box and finished well," he told the official club website www.spurs.co.uk
