Celtic furious over Bellamy questioning

14 April 2012

Celtic striker Craig Bellamy was quizzed by police following an incident in Glasgow - even though he was 200 miles away in Inverness at the time.

The Newcastle star - on loan at Parkhead until the end of the season - was questioned by police concerning an incident in the city centre in the early hours of Sunday morning.

But Bellamy was tucked up in bed in an Inverness hotel when the incident took place at around 4am.

Celtic have now called on police to punish the person who made the false allegations.

A club spokesman told the Daily Record: "This is not only very upsetting for the player and his family but it is also a complete waste of police time.

"Hopefully the person making these false allegations will be dealt with appropriately by the police."

Bellamy was set to make his debut against Inverness Caledonian Thistle on Sunday but weather conditions forced a postponement and he will now make his first appearance against Rangers this weekend instead.
