Chelsea cash in on Izzet

13 April 2012

Chelsea are set to pick up almost £1.5 million if Leicester midfielder Muzzy Izzet joins Middlesbrough in a £6m deal.

The former Blues player is on the brink of agreeing the switch which would enable the Londoners to take advantage of a sell-on clause which was written into the transfer when he moved to Leicester from Chelsea.

Chelsea managing director Colin Hutchinson said: "I don't know if the deal will go through between Leicester and Middlesbrough but as far as we are concerned, we are on 27.5 per cent on any fee over £800,000 for the player."

Struggling Leicester look certain to be relegated this season and the unsettled Izzet has been linked with a number of clubs in recent weeks.

The midfielder has become increasingly unhappy under Dave Bassett's regime and Leicester are happy to sell the player in order for them to begin their rebuilding plans.
