Chelsea player ratings vs Chesterfield: Lewis Hall enhances reputation as Hakim Ziyech torments opposition

AP

James Robson assesses Chelsea’s players after they booked their place in the fourth round of the FA Cup with a 5-1 win against Chesterfield.

Marcus Bettinelli 6

Rarely threatened, but alert when Chesterfield threatened. Unlucky to be beaten when Asante struck late on.

Malang Sarr 6

Could find himself getting more opportunities in this Covid-hit season. Looks the part every time he pulls on a Chelsea shirt.

Andreas Christensen 7

Strolled through this – as you would expect – and got a goal as well. Good to see him back out on the pitch and playing without pain after recent issues.

Lewis Hall 9

What an introduction to Chelsea’s first team. Had a big part to play in two goals, also denied Chesterfield their best chance and looked full of confidence. Highly thought of at Chelsea and this will only enhance his reputation.

Christian Pulisic 6

Won the penalty for Chelsea’s fifth. Not in his preferred role, but was dangerous when he got forward.

Saul Niguez 7

Another really positive day for the Spaniard, who is putting together a good run of performances after his struggles since his move from Atletico.

Mateo Kovacic 7

Looked bigger and stronger than anyone in Chesterfield’s midfield virtually from kick off – powering up the pitch with his driving runs.

Callum Hudson-Odoi 7

Lovely goal – albeit under no pressure from Chesterfield’s defenders. Very bright and one of Chelsea’s biggest threats.

Hakim Ziyech 8

Tormented the non-league opposition and got his reward with the second half penalty. A big boost for Chelsea that he has not gone to the African Cup of Nations.

Timo Werner 6

Opened the scoring – and no matter what the opposition, it will do his confidence the world of good to be in among the goals. But why didn’t he take the penalty?

Romelu Lukaku 6

Also got a goal and might have wanted longer on the pitch to really punish Chesterfield. Important to see him get more minutes, which could be vital going forward.

Ruben Loftus-Cheek (Kovacic, 46) 6

Saw plenty of the ball and helped maintain control of midfield.

Kai Havertz (Lukaku 46) 5

Had the ball in the net, but the flag went up. Couldn’t make the most of his opportunity against non-league defenders.

Harvey Vale (Pulisic 58) 6

Very promising. Looked good on the ball when he got it.

Lewis Baker (Chistensen 59) 6

Couldn’t prevent Tshimanga from getting a shot off in the build-up to Chesterfield’s goal. But encouraging otherwise

Ross Barkley (Hudson-Odoi 66) 4

Looked off the pace after coming on. Frustrating evening for him.
