Chuckwu making big impression

A teenager who was Nigeria's biggest recorded baby is on course to become a big rugby league star.

Jude Chuckwu, the 13-year-old London Broncos junior, is one of 18 boys from the capital selected to attend the National Rugby League Camp at Loughbrough University where the youngsters receive specialist instruction from Great Britain coach David Waite.

Chuckwu received an introduction to the game courtesy of a coaching scheme administered by the London Broncos at his local school and it wasn't long before he was spotted by Broncos development officer Phil Jones, who was very impressed.

Jones admitted: "I had to check with the teacher that I had turned up for the right class as Jude was bigger than most 16-year-olds that I coach.

"If Jude can keep showing the enthusiasm and appetite for the game he has demonstrated so far, then he can go along way in this sport."

Chuckwu is no stranger to making the news after claiming the tag of Nigeria's biggest baby in 1988, weighing in at a whopping 14lbs at birth.

He has also helped his school, St Joseph's Academy, to the final of the Broncos Year Eight tournament and has represented south-east London and the South of England this season.
