City are told: Don't sue Keane

13 April 2012

Manchester City have been reportedly advised to abandon their proposed legal action against Roy Keane.

Lawyers at Maine Road have examined Keane's horrortackle on City captain Alf-Inge Haaland last April and told the club to think very carefully before proceeding.

United have heard nothing from their rivals, but Haaland may mount his own legal challenge, claiming Keane's lunge at his right knee contributed to the problems experienced with his left knee.

A successful challenge could put United in a delicate position with their insurers.

Normally, a club would rely on insurance to cover damages, but as Keane has said the foul was deliberate insurers could refuse to pay, arguing he acted outside the scope of his employment.

Haaland is in America hoping to have a fourth knee operation that will enable him to play again.
