City supremo Eriksson tries to solve travel trouble

13 April 2012

Sven-Goran Eriksson is hoping the old adage 'it's good to talk' provides the solution for Manchester City's baffling away-day blues.

Despite boasting a 100% record on home soil this season, City's European aspirations are being undermined by unforseen difficulties on their travels.

Road trouble: Sven's men can't find their form away from Eastlands

Since their magnificent opening-day success at FA Cup third-round opponents West Ham, Eriksson's side have not won away from Eastlands in six Premier League outings.

Their latest failure came at lowly Wigan on Saturday, the draw meaning City fell out of the top four on goal difference once Liverpool had hammered Bolton 24 hours later.

With a trip to Tottenham looming on Sunday, when City will be without influential midfielder Dietmar Hamann through suspension, as well as visits to Aston Villa and Newcastle over the Christmas period, Eriksson knows he needs to find a solution to his team's travel sickness if they are to remain plausible top-six contenders.

"I feel something is missing and that we will have to talk about it again and see if we can find the answer before next week," Eriksson said.

"I am not frustrated or disappointed because we have a young team. I just feel in the future, we may be better.

"We are braver and more positive when we play at home than when we are away. We must try to throw that away in future."

While the loss of Hamann, who picked up his fifth booking at the JJB Stadium, is a blow, City are hopeful his midfield partner Michael Johnson will be available to face Spurs after recent abdominal surgery.
