Clark's return is cut short after new injury

Lee Clark is out of tomorrow's game against Leeds after injuring the calf which sidelined him for much of last season.

The midfielder pulled out of training today and has been sent for scans.

Clark only returned to action in the FA Cup quarter-final defeat against Manchester United last week after a month out injured. He was hoping to play against Leeds and help Fulham take another step towards securing their highest league finish ever.

The club were 10th in the top flight 44 years ago but are now ninth with 11 games to go.

Clark said: "We all know we are at a pivotal stage in the season. It is up to us: we either let all the great work done so far count for nothing, or we pull up our socks, kick on and make sure the club finishes in its highest ever league placing, and that is what we are going to do."

Chris Coleman, who will take charge of the team at Loftus Road tomorrow after two weeks in hospital with septicaemia, echoed Clark's sentiments.

The manager said: "It should be onward and upward now for us. We have got 11 games to play and no distractions. We are out of the cups and there are no excuses."

Fulham striker Facundo Sava has recovered from his calf injury but Carlos Bocanegra is suspended for the game.

Leeds will be without Eirik Bakke because of a thigh problem but Alan Smith should recover from a shin injury to play.

  • Fulham v Leeds, Loftus Road, tomorrow, 3pm.
