Consortium deny QPR ground sale plan

13 April 2012

Brian Melzack, whose consortium is on the brink of buying Queens Park Rangers, today denied rumours it is planning to sell the club's Loftus Road ground.

Melzack said: "We are prepared to sign a written undertaking not to sell the stadium, at the very least until we are back in the Premiership and need a bigger ground.

"If that happens, and we hope it does, we will look to move to a new ground within the area and any money from the sale of Loftus Road would then be poured back into the club."

Melzack was forced to react after a leaked document revealed that his consortium had secured a loan by using Loftus Road as insurance.

He admitted: "We do not want to do that but if we need to in order to keep the club alive. Ninety per cent of clubs in this country raise extra funding by using their stadium as collateral."
