Corby fears the worst

13 April 2012

President Mike Corby fears there is trouble ahead at the English Hockey Association after they asked member clubs to bail them out of their financial crisis.

Every EHA-affiliated club is to be asked to pay a levy of £150 for each team that plays under its name. Not only that but the clubs, who are all amateur, will need to find the money before 10 May.

But if the members do not agree to the resolution, which will be put forward at an emergency meeting next month, the EHA, who have lost about £700,000 over the last couple of years and have a VAT demand looming which is likely to take that figure beyond £1million, will go into receivership.

Corby said: "I think there will be a lot of problems. I hope the clubs will agree but I have my doubts. If they don't agree, then we have a major crisis on our hands."
