Cotterill crowned manager of the month

12 April 2012

Burnley's Steve Cotterill has been named Coca-Cola Championship manager of the month for October after guiding his unfancied side to third place in the table.

The Clarets remained unbeaten during the calendar month, claiming two draws and four wins, including an exhilarating 3-2 derby triumph over fellow promotion-challengers Preston.

"I am obviously delighted, it's the first time I've won it at Burnley," Cotterill said.

"I felt we had a tough month and, coupled with the injuries we had in the squad, that has probably made it a bigger achievement. That is all credit to my players though and I would like to dedicate the award to them."

The Coca-Cola League One award was claimed by Rotherham's Alan Knill, who oversaw the four league wins out of four which took the Millers out of the relegation zone despite their 10-point penalty for entering administration last season.

Lincoln's John Schofield won the Coca-Cola League Two crown after guiding the Imps to a 100% record in their quartet of games, scoring 15 goals in the process to lead the division.
