Aussies set up ‘Ashes’ final

Australia today booked their place in the Women’s World Twenty20 Final against England after beating West Indies by 28 runs in Colombo.

The defending champions posted a modest total of 115 for seven but their bowling attack was too strong for their opponents who were bowled out for just 87.

The Aussies will now face England in Sunday’s final after Charlotte Edwards’s team beat New Zealand by seven wickets in yesterday’s semi-final.

Australian captain Jodie Fields, who scored 19 not out from 22 balls, said: “Bring it on, all the girls are really keen.

“There were a few nervous moments for us today but we managed to come out on top.

“It would have been nice to get a few more runs, we were aiming for 140 but we knew we had a great bowling side.”

England have the psychological edge against Australia, having beaten them in the group stages of the tournament.
