Ben Stokes has confirmed that he will miss a match at the start of the South Africa tour next month to attend the BBC Sports Personality of the Year Awards.

Stokes is favourite to win the award following his heroics in the World Cup and at Headingley in the Ashes. But he will miss a two-day match against a South Africa Invitational XI, which starts on December 17 before being available for a three-day game against South Africa A.

Stokes tweeted: “Overwhelmed by this and buzzing to be nominated. 2019 has been so good. Congrats to all the other nominees. Looking forward to being in Aberdeen on December 15.”
