Blow for World Cup venue

England's World Cup match with India will no longer take place at Eden Gardens because the world famous Kolkata venue has been deemed unfit to stage the game.

The group match was due to take place on 27 February but new plans must now be made after the International Cricket Council decided that the necessary changes to the 82,000-capacity ground could not be made in time.

ICC chief executive Haroon Lorgat said:"This was no easy decision to take and while it is most unfortunate, it is absolutely necessary."
