Defeat was just a blip for us, says Paul Collingwood

Paul Collingwood wants England to forget about last night's four-wicket Twenty20 loss to South Africa 'A' and focus on the positives from the rest of the tour.

The all-rounder is in charge of the team this week in the absence of Andrew Strauss, who no longer plays international 20-over cricket. But Collingwood's first game as leader on tour was one to forget as a meek batting display proved to be the catalyst for the loss in Bloemfontein.

Alastair Cook, dropped twice during his innings, top scored with a scratchy 22, while only three batsmen reached double figures as they lost eight wickets for 40 runs.

England were bowled out for a paltry 89 in 17.3 overs before Rilee Rossouw and Vaughn van Jaarsveld both hit 23 each to help guide their side home with 15 balls to spare.

It was the first poor result of the trip but stand-in skipper Collingwood insists they will bounce back for the opening Twenty20 international against the hosts on Friday.

"I'm hoping tonight is just a blip," said Collingwood. "We've done a lot of good stuff on this tour. Obviously, Twenty20 cricket's a different format but if you lose seven for 20, you're not going to win any games. So that's the area we've got to look at."

Ed Joyce, who was in the provisional England squad for this year's Champions Trophy, has agreed a new three-year deal at Sussex.

The Dublin-born player, who moved to Hove from Middlesex last year, scored three first-class hundreds in his maiden season with the club at an average of 41.08.
