Steven Finn has promised that the England cricket team will remain defiant after Saturday's terrorist attack in London.

The team were staying near the site of the attack on London Bridge and Borough Market ahead of their Champions Trophy match against New Zealand on Tuesday, with some players struggling to return to the hotel late on Saturday due to several road closures in the area.

This is not the first time that England have had to try to concentrate on cricket despite a high terror alert, and Finn pointed to last year’s tour of Bangladesh as a recent example of this.

“This tournament will be no different. We are obviously very sad about what happened and end out condolences to all those involved.”

The fast bowler was also quick to reassure any concerned spectators about their own safety.

He added: “We are fully supportive of the security plans that are in place. We have been briefed on how we are going to be protected.

“The attack on London was very random and as long as our minds are at ease over that we will be all right to play cricket.”

Finn is not the only cricketer to have pledged his faith in the security provided at the tournament, with Australia captain Steve Smith in a similarly defiant mood.

“For us, it’s about just being diligent with everything we do and continuing the tournament as usual.”
