Duncan Fletcher to help Kevin Pietersen end batting slump

Hit and miss: Kevin Pietersen has struggled for England lately but hopes Duncan Fletcher can help him recover his best form

Kevin Pietersen has turned to former England coach Duncan Fletcher in a bid to solve his batting problems.

The 29-year-old enjoyed his best days in the international arena under Fletcher but has been out of the runs since undergoing surgery on his Achilles in the summer.

Pietersen contacted Fletcher, who has promised to give advice after watching his former player in action for England during the Twenty20 clashes against Pakistan in Dubai today and tomorrow.

"Duncan sees the way your hands are and the way you pick your bat up," said Pietersen. "I spoke to him last week for a long time and he said, KP, I can't say anything to you now but are the games in Dubai televised?' I said, They should be.' He said, I'll have a look and I'll call you straight afterwards.'"

The swashbuckling style, which saw Pietersen make his name has disappeared and his struggles with the bat were seen on the winter tour of South Africa where he finished the four Tests with 177 runs at 25.28.

Pietersen says his approach to Fletcher has the blessing of England coach Andy Flower.

"The good thing about Andy Flower is that only recently he was playing cricket and five years ago he was playing international cricket," he told March's issue of The Wisden Cricketer magazine.

"He knows when players need a day off, even when we've had the worst game in the world. He knows what he's doing and that's why the boys are responding as well as they are."
