The England and Wales Cricket Board will conduct a "business as usual" review into its transgender policy but the governing body is not expecting to announce significant changes.

The ECB currently allows self-identifying females to compete in its women's competitions and only those who wish to play for England must comply with the International Cricket Council's medical mandates around testosterone levels.

Cricket Australia has just announced the elite tier of its women's league will follow the same guidelines but it appears improbable that the ECB will follow suit for next year's new professional competition.

The matter will be addressed but only as part of a normal corporate practice.

"Our position on transgender participation will be reviewed as part of our ongoing commitment to regularly review all governance policies," the ECB said in a statement.

"This will take place as part of a business-as-usual principle - and not in response to the Cricket Australia policy around trans athlete participation.

"In our current policy, the eligibility of players is based on one's own self-identified gender, with no medical requirement. We are unlikely to make any unilateral changes to this stance. We are proud that this model promotes an inclusive environment for all participants in domestic and recreational cricket."
