Ed Cowan's risky thinking for Australia

19 April 2012

Australia are confident they can still win the Second Test against West Indies in Port of Spain today despite losing most of the fourth day to a torrential storm.

The tourists are 127 runs ahead with seven second innings wickets in hand and with more showers forecast for today a draw is the most likely result.

But Australia opening batsman Ed Cowan said his side may gamble on an early declaration to give themselves a chance of victory and clinch a 2-0 series win.

“I don’t think there’s any doubt about that,” said Cowan. “We’ll open up the game at some point, probably willing to lose it for the chance to win it. It will depend on whether they’re willing to risk the game, I guess.”

West Indies fast bowler Kemar Roach said: “It’s kind of dicey now but we’ll see how it goes. We’ll compete as well as we can.”
