Ben Stokes will miss next week’s third Investec Test against Pakistan with a torn right calf, the ECB has confirmed.

In Stokes’ absence England have named a 14-man squad for the Edgbaston Test, with pace pair Steven Finn and Jake Ball joined by Adil Rashid.

As reported by Standard Sport earlier today the England setup are pessimistic over the prospect of Stokes featuring for his country again this summer after the all-rounder suffered an injury during day four of England’s victory at Old Trafford.

An ECB statement confirmed: "Durham and England all-rounder Ben Stokes will miss the Test after an MRI scan revealed that he sustained a torn right calf during the fourth day of England's 330-run victory over Pakistan at Emirates Old Trafford.

"The 25-year-old will be reviewed by the England medical team next week, when the squad reports to Birmingham on Monday morning."

Stokes has yet to complete a Test match or limited-overs fixture this summer and has already undergone surgery on his left knee, which he injured during the first Test against Sri Lanka in May.

Squad in full: Alastair Cook (captain), Alex Hales, Joe Root, James Vince, Gary Balance, Jonny Bairstow, Moeen Ali, Chris Woakes, Stuart Broad, Steven Finn, James Anderson, Adil Rashid, Jake Ball
