England will join the West Indies in wearing a Black Lives Matter logo on the collars of their shirts at next week’s First Test at the Ageas Bowl, where the two teams also look set to take a knee before the game starts.

The tourists announced earlier this week that they would be wearing whites with the Black Lives Matter logo designed by Alisha Hosannah, the partner of Watford captain Troy Deeney, that has been worn by Premier League clubs since football returned.

England were today set to announce that they would be doing the same, although the ECB will not endorse the UK arm of the BLM movement. Furthermore, England captain Joe Root, who will miss the game due to the birth of his second child, has spoken with his West Indies counterpart Jason Holder, and the players plan to follow other sports stars in taking a knee before the Test begins.

The ECB are now looking into how to add atmosphere to the ground for the players next week.

While broadcasters are developing their own innovations for a TV audience, there will still be fewer than 300 people, including those on the field, in a ground that can hold 25,000.

Players in England’s warm-up match yesterday found the atmosphere in the ground “strange”, and the ECB will look into how they can improve the situation before Wednesday.
