Joel Wilson remains on schedule to stand in the Third Ashes at Headingley despite a series of umpiring gaffes as Australia crushed England at Edgbaston.

Wilson, a new addition to the ICC’s elite panel, had a record eight decisions overturned and is due to be one of the standing umpires at Leeds. He is also the nominated TV umpire for the Second Test at Lord’s from next Wednesday, where Chris Gaffaney joins Aleem Dar in the middle.

Standard Sport understands the ICC have no plans to change their line-up.

Yesterday, England captain Joe Root — who was given out and saved on review four times in the Test — showed solidarity with the umpires.

The ICC are slightly limited in Ashes series, as four of their 12-strong elite panel are English, and three Australian, and umpires must be neutral in Tests,

Meanwhile, Australia’s Steve Smith and Nathan Lyon were the big risers when the ICC updated their rankings this morning, with Smith’s twin centuries taking him to third in the batting rankings.

Lyon moved up six places to 13th in the bowling table following nine wickets in the match.
