Former England cricketer Mal Loye has revealed he was approached by Lou Vincent to spot-fix in county games.

Loye was asked to help by Vincent when they opened the batting for Lancashire in Twenty20 cricket in 2008.

Loye refused but only revealed his full story when approached by England and Wales Cricket Board detectives last year who were investigating Vincent.

“In the beginning [when Vincent first made the approach] I just thought what is going on here?” Loye told The Daily Telegraph. “It was a very lonely place. My way of dealing with it was wrong. If it happened now with all the education in place I would have been a lot more informed about approaching the right person to let them know about it. In the end my way of dealing with it was to just ignore him.”

Loye, who played seven one-day internationals, regrets not reporting Vincent at the time but was unaware of the implications of the fixing approaches.

Vincent has admitted being approached by an illegal bookmaker and has given the authorities the names of players he claims were involved in spot-fixing and allegations over which matches were targeted.
