Middlesex pair put Surrey to the sword

Skipper Neil Dexter and John Simpson rescued Middlesex from a poor start to leave Surrey reeling at stumps on the first day at Lord's.

The pair came together at 88 for four and shared a fifth-wicket stand of 254 to put Middlesex in charge. Dexter smashed 145 and keeper Simpson finished on 126 not out with Middlesex 368 for five.

Dean Cosker and James Harris each took four-wickets as Glamorgan earned a first-innings lead over Essex on day two. Essex were out for 258 in reply to the visitors' 282 and Glamorgan closed on 50 for one.
